| A beautiful bright, limpid, raspberry red core, fading gently to a narrow watery rim. And just as the eye suggests raspberry, so does the nose, which exhibits all manner of fresh and dried red berry and currant fruit aromas, with notes of leather, forest floor, fine eau de vie and a gentle whiff of desiccated orange - delightfully elegant and quite intoxicating. The palate is crammed full of red fruit flavours - raspberry, redcurrant and strawberry spring to mind - with a hint of clotted cream thrown in for good measure, along with a touch of sweet garrigue herbiness. Meltingly soft tannins combine with tangy soft citrus and cherry skin acidity, in a wine that lingers for a good while on the finish. For me, the Cinsault makes all the difference, adding a lightness of touch and elegance to the mix - as this often under-appreciated variety is apt to do, in the hands of a skilled winemaker. And the result is a wine that just begs to be drunk, even in its first flush of youth. A fine new addition to the Terre des Chardons portfolio, it really is very more-ish! Certified organic and biodynamic. |
