A deep-ish cherry red colour, fading gently to a narrow rim. As with the 2016 (this cuvée isn't made in every vintage) it offers a riot of black cherry, bramble and orange peel aromas, with subtle notes of pencil shavings, peppermint and damp earth. This 2019 is of course more youthful (tasted March 2022) but definitely has the potential to evolve, over the next few years. Again, there's plenty of grip, with bags of ripe, sweet-sour bramble and black cherry fruit flavours, gently rustic but beautifully ripe tannins, a touch of peppery spice and a long, cool, minty finish. A delicious young wine, which is drinking well already, but will age and evolve for at least another 3 to 5 years - and is a bit of a bargain. |
