For those familiar with the wines of Domaine Sol-Payré, this takes the place of what used to be known as their "Tradition" cuvée. It isn't pretending to be a "special" wine - it just does everything that you expect of a really good, honest, hearty, well-made Roussillon red. It is aged in stainless steel vats, so there's no oak to get in the way of its wonderfully heady, ripe, tangy spice and herb-tinged bramble and cherry fruit aromas and flavours. Though certainly not lacking in structure, this really is a joy to drink from the moment the cork is pulled, with masses of ripe, juicy red and black fruit flavours, combined with gently grippy tannins and mouth-watering acidity. The result is a simply delicious wine, which transports you instantly to a warm summer's evening in the south of France. |
