A blend of Cabernet Franc, Syrah and Merlot, from 25 year-old vines grown on alluvial soils on the banks of the Vernazobre river, which flows through the heart of Saint-Chinian. Medium-deep, limpid cherry red in colour, with delightful aromas of red and black cherry and berry fruits, and hints of sous bois, black pepper and garrigue herbs. The peppery, spiced bramble and black cherry fruit of the Cabernet Franc combines beautifully with the piquant red cherry and red/black currant flavours of the Syrah, whilst the Merlot adds a touch of plum and cassis richness. All of which adds up to a beautifully sweet-sour mouthful of Languedoc loveliness, with gently grippy but ripe tannins, cracking acidity and a long, cool, peppery finish. A lovely drink on its own, but also an ideal match for pizza and pasta dishes, or grilled meats. |
