100% Chardonnay - there is no designated appellation (AOP) for white wines grown in the Cahors region, hence the IGP denomination. But don't let its mere "country wine" status fool you, for this is a very decent expression of its variety, in the style of a Petit Chablis or Beaujolais Villages Blanc. The colour is a limpid pale gold and the nose offers aromas of white tree fruits, with subtle hints of flowers, herbs, peppery spice and gun flint. The palate shows a touch of nutty richness, but is essentially bone dry, with tangy apple and citrus flavours. Again, there's a hint of pepper and spice and a modicum of grape tannin, with plenty of wet stone minerality, laser-like acidity and a nice dry finish. A really food-friendly wine, which is also excellent as an aperitif. Serve at just below room temperature, but not too cold. |
