Fleurie is generally at the lighter end of the Cru Beaujolais spectrum, but what it might lack in weight, it more than makes up for in elegance and charm - Fleurie (flowery) by name and by nature! A medium-deep cherry/burgundy red core, fading gently to a narrow rim. Complex aromas of little red fruits, cut flowers and dried orange peel, with subtle forest floor and incense notes peeping through. In the mouth, it is wonderfully fresh and refreshing, crammed full of fruit flavours, all at the red end of the spectrum - raspberry, redcurrant, cranberry and red cherry - combined with silky tannins and fabulous cherry/orange acidity. It isn't massively complex, but it is long on fruit and a sheer joy to drink. |
