From vines grown around the village of Beaujeu, 10km to the west of the Rampon winery in Villié-Morgon. Whilst undoubtedly a real step up from basic Beaujolais (most of which is grown on the plains to the south), this has a touch more rusticity than the wines from the 10 "cru" villages. Medium-deep cherry/blood red in colour, it offers an array of red and black fruit and orange zest aromas, along with hints of spices and herbs. In the mouth, red/black cherry and bramble flavours mingle with slightly rustic tannins and bright acidity, again with a hint of soft citrus. All of which makes for a refreshingly sweet-sour, juicy-fruity wine. |
