A deep-ish raspberry-red core, fading to a slight bricking rim. A fabulous nose of fresh and crystallised black and red fruits, soused dark fruitcake, desiccated orange peel, curry spices and damp earth, with all manner of tertiary notes peeping through - burning incense, old leather, red meat and garrigue herbs, just to mention a few. A massively complex and intoxicating wine, with all of those aromas coming through in the mouth, and more. At 6 years of age, it feels like it's really hitting its stride, with fine, softening tannins, peppery spice and herbs and wonderfully bracing acidity all melding together, leading to a long, sweet-sour, gently minty finish. Honestly, it's a wine that is hard to fault, and although there is still scope for a few more years of evolution, it really is irresistible now! |
