Clear, bright cherry/blood red. Smoky, meaty and spicy on the nose, with background notes of raspberry liqueur, new leather, garrigue herbs, damp earth and a definite whiff of the sea - really very complex and sexy. Initially, there's quite a warm feel to it, which is part of its charm. It's a big, powerful winter warmer of a wine, with bags of spicy raspberry, black cherry and bramble fruit flavours and a herby, spicy savouriness, with ripe, velvety tannins, again a real maritime mineral tang, and ample underlying acidity. It finishes long, spicy and warm - and really does grow on you! A big, bold and delicious wine, which is approachable now, but will age and evolve for a good few years yet. |
